OpenID Comments for Wordpress

This post is to introduce plugin OpenID Comments for Wordpress, which allows users to leave comments using their OpenID. Current version of plugin is 0.9.1. Read the file en_readme.txt for changes.

Starting from version 0.9.0 plugin implements OpenID Server. If you have an administrator account on the site powered by WordPress, you can use any URL which belongs to the site as OpenID identity. If you have a common user account, you can use http://wordpress_blog_url/author/nickname.

Plugin based on OpenID for Wordpress, by Dan Huntley.

Main changes

  • It’s no hack any more.
  • It implements OpenID Server.
  • Users can authorize right from comment form.
  • Works with PHP4 (original version only worked with PHP5).

Weaknesses

  • Users can pretend that they authorized with OpenID. To do this they can just enter something like snaky_@livejournal.com in the Name field and http://www.livejournal.com/users/snaky_/ in the URL field. The only way to prevent such cheat is switching off anonymous comments.

If you have any problems with the plugin try to read known issues, perhaps, there is a solution. If you’re continue having problems try to use alternative version of the plugin.

All the comments are premoderated so if you are going to test the plugin here it might be that you wont see your comment immediately.

P.S. I’m not a native English speaker. It would be nice if you help me to correct the mistakes.

    Спасибо. Да, я знаю. Я же и говорю, что по дурости Ваш плагин был обновлён одноимённым сторонним. И когда теперь я удалил тот плагин и поставил заново Ваш, начались проблемы с авторизацией моего OpenID-сервера.

    Дело в том, что нет никакой версии моего плагина старше чем 0.9.1. Вы, похоже, поставили плагин с таким же названием, но который был сделан совершенно другими людьми.

    Использую в WP на сайте http://moiseenko.net/
    OpenID своего сайта, http://maxu.net.ru/
    Проблемы начались после того, как по дурости обновился Ваш плагин версии 0.9.1 одноимённым версии 2.1.х… И как после этого не пытался вычистить БД, переустанавливать плагин – не работает.
    Такое чувство, что у меня не отрабатывает теперь почему-то OpenID-сервер.

    WordPress 2.3.3. Под 2.1.3 с горем пополам работало, под новым – никак не завести.
    Ни как клиент ни как сервер (((

    В ЖЖ давным-давно уже сменилась адресация.
    И вроде все работало.

    А теперь сломалось, кажись.

    Сделал багфикс:
    – поменял identity_url, который для ЖЖ генерится
    – поменял соответственно распознавание линка, чтобы у юзера имя была в виде user@livejournal
    – переписал http_get. В текущей версии в curl’е не ставился ключик FOLLOWLOCATE, или типа того. Он не ставится, если у PHP указан base_dir или включен safemode.

    Так сразу не сказать, проверьте, есть ли у вас папка tmp в директории плагина и права на запись у нее.

    Что-то у меня не так вышло.
    Форма для комментов изменилась для ввода OpenID, тут все ок, и сам ID тоже подтверждается, но вот комментарий потом не виден, и текст пропадает. В админке я этот коммент вижу, а в самом блоге – нет. Причем текста нет и в админке.

    Что я там мог напороть? Может таблицы какой нехватает?

    Мда… наверное я что-то не так делаю…
    при попытке оставить коммент через OpenID dыдается пустая страница с следующим url:

    I’m no OpenID expert, but it seems that Wikitravel requests ‘extra information’ about my ID. This allows the wiki to display my nickname as a username. Have you considered integrating this kind of information in your patch; it would be cool to see real names (or nicknames) instead of OpenID URIs.

    После установки плагина пытаюсь откомментить свой блог своим аккаунтом в ЖЖ. Перенаправляет на страницу ***/blog/wp-content/plugins/openid/openid-comments-post.php с текстом Couldn’t find OpenID Server.
    Папка с правами есть. В чем может быть проблема?

    У меня возникает такая ошибка Warning: curl_setopt() [function.curl-setopt]: CURLOPT_FOLLOWLOCATION cannot be activated when in safe_mode or an open_basedir is set in ../openid-classes.php on line 231
    Couldn’t find OpenID Server

    Как исправить? Заранее благодарю за помощь

    Oh! That was exactly my problem described several weeks earlyer! Thanks a lot.

    Snaky, you really shoud correct lines 71 and 73 of openid.php (just remove the slash after “.php”). And thank you once agait for the plugin, as now it works 100% as it’s intended to be.

    If this works, I have worked out the problem. It appears that putting the trailing slash on server.php in the openid.server link caused my mod_rewrite rules to see it as invalid and therefore redirect the home page. By removing the trailing slash it now works.

    Thanks. I have added the openid.server directive into the header. Now if I try to sign into any site that supports OpenID, I get presented with the home page of my blog. If I aren’t logged in to my blog as admin I get a screen asking me to log in. After logging in I just get the home page of my blog again. It does have all the openid server query parameters in the URL but the actual URI is just the base URI for the site. It doesn’t seem to be adding /wp-content/plugins/openid/server.php into the URI before adding the query string.

    Any ideas?

    It seems that you didn’t activate the plugin. Because you don’t have necessary information on the HEAD. There has to be something like this: < link rel="openid.server" href="http://the-notebook.org/wp-content/plugins/openid/server.php/"/ >

    Yeap, you’re right. This information appears on the HEAD when you activate plugin. If not you can put it by yourself. Just look on the sources of this blog.

    Your plugin works very, very well. However, I never managed to get the “server” bit to work. The URLs are fine, but… I wonder if you have to put something specific on the HEAD, so that remote sites can retrieve the information from there?

    In that case, what would the link tags for openid.server and openid.delegate be?

    Hi,

    I’ve installed and configured your OpenID plugin and it seems to work fine for comments. However, I want to get it working as an OpenID server but can’t seem to.

    My blog is at http://blog.pdtoal.com

    If I try to put this URL in the OpenID user field above to leave a comment or even http://blog.pdtoal.com/author/admin I get an error “Couldn’t find OpenID server”.

    Have I missed some config. My understanding was that I should be able to use my blog URL as an openid server. Please explain how.

    I have 1 administrator account set up on my blog at the moment.
