This time it was an old Acer Aspire 3610 with 512 Mb memory. I was going to install Ubuntu on it but I also needed Photoshop so I’ve decided to try Hackintosh. I’ve downloaded iPC OSx86 Install Disk and spent the next 2 days solving the Still waiting for root device problem. But in the end I’ve found the working configuration:

  • iPC OSx86 10.5.6 Base System
  • Drivers

    • Video Drivers -> Intel -> Intel GMA900
    • Chipset Drivers -> Intel ICHx SATA Drivers
    • Audio Drivers -> Other Audio Drivers -> AC97 Audio
    • Ethernet Drivers -> Intel PRO 100/VE
    • USB Drivers -> Patched USB Drivers
    • Power Management -> AppleACPIBatteryManager
  • Fixes and Patches

    • PS/2 Device Support -> PS/2 Keyboard Fix
    • CPUS=1 One Core Fix
    • IOUSBMassStorage Fix
    • Dual Boot Time Sync
    • Seatbelt.kext 10.5.5
    • Shutdown/Restart Fix
  • Applications

    • EFI Studio
    • OSx86 Tools Utility
    • Kext Helper b7
    • Perian
    • NTFS 3-G + MacFUSE

I can’t say Mac OS X works very smooth on that laptop but it’s definitely usable. With another 512 mb memory it’s gonna be perfect for sure.
